No complicated shapes, forms or expressions—the novel idea was do one thing well and repeat. The front of the home boasts a wrap around porch and unique slanted galvanized columns that give this home its modern lean and verve.
We purchased the lot from an old mason who kept his tools in the shed and spent much of his day there with a drink in hand. In tribute, we kept that old shed, renovating it slightly to be a storage or multipurpose space. The buyer has since converted it into a second den—a drinking establishment once again.
The shed frames the backyard with complimentary architecture, allowing the gravel parking court to turn into a gathering area and fire pit zone. The back porch spills down to this space with gracious wide steps in an almost amphitheater fashion—encouraging a seamless flow from inside to outside.
The greatest compliment a builder can get is imitation. We can’t say that this home was the first farmhouse modern, but bits and pieces have been copied over the years and we still get requests from other developers and homeowners to buy the plans. We never truly know in the beginning what we’ll end up with, but we’re quite fond of this one.
